The Sugar Drive is inspired by a legendary overdrive pedal that earned a mythical reputation among tone enthusiasts thanks to its unique circuit design.
At the heart of the design is the Drive control, which doesn't simply add more gain. Instead, it gradually blends your clean signal with the overdriven signal as you turn it up, recreating the natural transition of a tube amplifier moving from clean to overdriven. A built-in voltage doubler increases overall headroom, providing greater clarity, dynamics, and openness.
MXR added its own modern refinements to the design. The Sugar Drive operates in true bypass by default, but players who prefer buffered bypass can simply flip the side-mounted Buffer switch to enable it.
With its straightforward three-knob layout and compact MXR Mini housing, the Sugar Drive is a versatile, pedalboard-friendly overdrive that delivers boutique-inspired tone without the boutique price tag.
