TAPE DELAY
The JHS Pedals 3 Series is a collection of pedals designed to give affordability and simplicity without compromising quality. Each 3 Series pedal is made in Kansas City, MO, using high-quality parts, quality control, and attention to detail. Each pedal has three simple controls and one toggle that offer a wide range of sounds, suitable for beginners and professionals alike.
Tape delay was invented in the late 40s when Les Paul strung two Ampex Model 200A reel-to-reel tape recorders together. In 1953, Ray Butts invented the Echosonic, the first actual tape delay unit. This was followed by the Echoplex EP-1 in 1961 from Mike Battle and the Space Echo from Roland in 1974. The JHS Pedals 3 Series Tape Delay is a simplified and faithful throwback to these classic units. The Mix control adjusts how much clean signal is blended with the wet (delayed) signal. Tape Speed simulates the RE-201’s tape motor speed and determines the delay length. The Repeats control goes from a single repeat to many, mimicking the sound being written onto a tape loop with loss of fidelity. The Flutter toggle, when engaged, replicates the mechanical wear and tear of vintage tape machines, adding mild modulation, warble, and flutter to the echo path.
CONTROLS
- MIX – Controls how much clean signal is blended with the wet (delayed) signal. Left is more dry signal, right is more wet signal.
- TAPE SPEED – Controls the length of the delay effect. Left is shorter, right is longer.
- REPEATS – Controls how many repeats occur. Left is less, right is more.
- FLUTTER – Switch down is standard effect. Switch up introduces mild modulation reminiscent of vintage units with mechanical wear.
JACKS
- INPUT – ¼” jack on the right side of the pedal.
- OUTPUT – ¼” jack on the left side of the pedal.
POWER
- Requires 9VDC negative center power and consumes 65mA. Do not use more than 9VDC.
THIS PEDAL REQUIRES STANDARD 9VDC NEGATIVE POWER, CONSUMES 65mA, AND MEASURES 4.42” X 2.38” X 1.22”.
