RAH

In 1970, Led Zeppelin hit the stage of London's historic concert hall, Royal Albert Hall. We love the RAH performance and were inspired by a friend to capture it in a pedal.

At this performance, Jimmy Page expressed himself masterfully with a broad palette of tones and a giant dynamic range. Of course, this has a lot to do with Page’s playing technique and his Gibson Les Paul. His backline amplifiers, custom Hiwatt heads into Marshall cabinets, filled the entire hall with a cornucopia of colors at levels ranging from a mouse whisper to rave-ups louder than a jumbo jet taking off just inches over your head.

Controls:

Treble: The treble control handles high frequencies. On the Jimmy Page Hiwatt, it may seem subtle at first, but adjusting the bass and middle makes it more pronounced. For example, boosting the bass and lowering the middle increases treble’s impact. Start with treble at noon and adjust for the desired brightness or attack.

Bass: The bass control manages low frequencies, adding fullness. On the Jimmy Page Hiwatt, it stays punchy without overwhelming the tone. Start at noon and adjust to find a balanced low end that complements the treble and middle settings.

Master: This controls the output volume. For the best response, set it just past unity volume—typically around noon. Unity volume means the volume with the pedal on is about the same as when the pedal is off.

Gain: This control corresponds to the input volume control on the actual Page amplifier. The sweet spot for this control is between three o'clock and maximum for a more Zep-like response. However, for a cleaner sound, or if your guitar has particularly hot pickups, you may want to try lower gain settings.

Middle: The middle control shapes midrange frequencies, which are crucial for a balanced tone. Lowering it creates a scooped sound, while increasing it adds warmth and body. Start at noon and adjust to dial in the right amount of midrange presence.

Power:

The RAH runs on 9 volts DC, negative ground only, either from a battery or the DC jack.
