Katzenkonig
The Katzenkonig thrives with humbuckers, single coils, cranked amps, and even super-clean setups. The front half of its circuit is based on the legendary Tone Bender MKII, widely regarded as the most desirable of the Tone Benders. In the original MKII, a germanium transistor amplifies the signal to loud, a second transistor makes it very loud, and a third one takes it to ridiculously loud. However, the Katzenkönig’s Filter control adds a unique twist, offering tonal flexibility you won't find in a traditional Tone Bender MKII.
Controls:
Filter: This control allows you to shape your final tone from smooth and creamy to bright and cutting. It’s easy to find the sweet spot for your rig with this dial. If you're familiar with the Filter control on a Rat, you'll discover that the Katzenkonig offers an even more refined version of that concept!
Gain: Adjusts the gain of the second gain stage. It’s not a conventional gain control; instead, it regulates the amount of negative feedback in that stage. For you, that means a versatile gain range that sounds fantastic throughout the entire rotation!
Volume: A standard volume control that sounds great whether the pedal is turned down quiet or cranked up and loud.
Input: Controls the input sensitivity. Turn it down when using higher-output pickups or humbuckers, or to fine-tune your wah sound. Increase it for lower-output pickups or when you want to push your sound over the top.
Power
The Katzenkonig can run on 9 to 18 volts DC, using a standard center-negative power supply or a 9-volt battery. Running it on battery power gives a softer response with a slightly different picking feel. Using a DC power supply above 9 volts results in a louder sound with a subtly different response. Experiment with various power options to discover your ultimate Katzenkönig tone!
